Like a point guard who makes a defender dizzy with a wicked crossover dribble, Johnson juked Rambo in the open field and went untouched for the score. Orakpos missed tackle resulted in Rambo being isolated with Johnson. Thats a bad matchup for a Pro Bowl safety, let alone a sixth-round draft pick in the first quarter of his career. Adjusting to the speed of the game is among the most difficult things for rookies in their transition to the NFL. It was clear Rambo was overmatched from the moment Johnson broke through the line of scrimmage. Could Rambo have taken a better angle in pursuit? Possibly. Hopefully for Rambo and the Redskins, Rambo will review the game tape and learn something that could help him in a similar situation in the future. But the preseason, especially for rookies, is about learning. Redskins coaches have seen enough of Rambo in practice no safety on the roster has better range to list him as the starter at one safety spot.
The Redskins got a preseason penalty for excessive TD celebration
The team went 10-6 last season and 5-1 against the NFC East, including in Week 17 against the Cowboys, defeating Dallas to send them home for the playoffs. The team lost to the Seahawks at home in the postseason and now Griffin will get a full preseason and camp as the main leader on the team. Check here for more information on RG3 and his crazy offseason, including rehab, his wedding day and those pesky rumors about text messages to his mistress. Griffin led the team in passing with 3,200 yards and fellow rookie Alfred Morris was fantastic with over 1,600 yards rushing and if Griffin wasn’t around, he would have won rookie of the year. The team ranked first in rushing with Griffin scrambling a lot and he took care of the ball, but the defense was awful against the pass, ranking 30th among teams with over 280 per game, although the rush defense was fantastic, ranking fifth. The Redskins are a balanced team on offense and after playing against the Titans the team will host the Steelers on preseason Monday night football and later will host the Bills before playing against the Bucs on the road. The team has an early bye in Week 5 and will play the Eagles first on Monday night in Week 1 before travelling to Green Bay, playing Detroit and travelling to Oakland leading into the bye week.
Pat White lifts Washington Redskins in win over Titans
A big-bodied bruiser in the running game, Paulsen has managed to steadily develop a niche as a dependable receiver. Classic in-liners like Paulsen can be a quarterback’s best friend, serving as reliable safety valves over the middle. Shanahan should use the two-tight end set to attack underneath coverage more often in 2013. The deep ball was the staple of the passing game last season, but Griffin will become a better quarterback if his range becomes more varied and his short-game matures. The Redskins will battle the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 1, and a multiple-tight end offense could prove very effective. The Eagles will field thumpers Mychal Kendricks and DeMeco Ryans as inside linebackers. Logan Paulsen is the kind of safety valve every quarterback loves. Shanahan should use Davis, Paul, Reed and Paulsen to exploit the pair in coverage. Philly could also be fielding a new-look safety partnership involving veterans Patrick Chung and Kenny Phillips.
How the Washington Redskins Can Ensure Explosive Start to RG3’s 2013 Season
9, 2013 at 01:31 p.m. Friend(s) Email Back from the abyss, Pat White found himself trending on Twitter on Thursday night . The Washington Redskins ‘ fourth-string quarterback played his first NFL game in three years in a 22-21 preseason win over the Tennessee Titans . It likely would have been a Redskins loss if it wasn’t for White, who signed with the team in April. White scrambled through the Titans defense for a 9-yard touchdown with 2:23 left in fourth quarter, pulling the Redskins within a point of the Titans , 21-20. After coach Mike Shanahan did his part — opting for a two-point conversion to prevent the tie — White made the gamble look wise, connecting with tight end Emmanuel Ogbuehi for the game-winner.

Brian Orakpo, Fred Davis are bright spots in Redskins’ preseason opener
They dont want to hear hows he walking around Richmond during Training Camp. They want Snyder to go in front of someone who is going to ask the tough questions. They want someone who will ask why he sued season ticket-holders, and whether he is really different from the meddlesome owner who undermined coaches and coordinators earlier in his tenure. And considering Snyder rarely speaks in public, the fact such an instance gets wasted, so to speak, only further alienates Redskins fans. Plus, it reinforces the notion that Snyder is withdrawn and only speaks in certain settings and forums, in which he is in control. Of course, that may in fact be the case. Snyder may in fact, not want to answer some of those questions.
Washington Redskins open preseason tonight against the Titans
Is it legal to mimic getting tasered multiple times after catching a TD pass in a preseason game? As Washington Redskins tight end Fred Davis found out; no, no its not. Davis was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct after the play, a good omen for his 2013 if there ever was one. But hes like to clarify something. blog url Even though it looked like he was tasering himself, that wasnt his intent. Davis told Mike Jones of The Washington Post : I dont even know [what it was]. It was spontaneous. I dont know what I was doing, actually. Ive got to put more thought into it. I cost my team a penalty, so it wasnt a good celebration. For Davis to say he needs to put more thought into his celebration suggests he put any thought into it, which the evidence hardly supports.

Redskins Offensive MVP Against Titans
Rambo is the rookie safety who the Redskins are counting on to start this year, and he was put in a bind early. Titans Pro Bowl running back Chris Johnson caught the Redskins defensive line overpursuing, and Rambo was the only man between Johnson and daylight. The rookie whiffed badly. That could mean extended time in future preseason games for Rambo, as the Skins try to get him ready for when the wins and losses count. Cousins will be Washington’s backup quarterback this season, but the team will feel confident if he’s needed after a strong showing Thursday.
Dont go in with expectations where it doesnt count or anything like that. Its very important for coaches to evaluate how these guys are going to play. Tonights game also will give players a breather after 11 days of practices, most of them two-a-days. Wednesday and Friday are travel days, and while position and film meetings are held, there will be minimal on-field work. Its fun to get on a plane and get out of here, defensive end Phillip Merling said on Monday afternoon in Richmond. We get to be in a new city, unwind a little bit, and hopefully have a good game. Coach Mike Shanahan will take a similarly laid back attitude toward the game planning. There wont be a specific playbook. Instead, the Redskins will focus on general concepts. Shanahan said he will use his starters for about 10 to 15 plays, depending on how the first drive goes. Hes classifying quarterback Kirk Cousins as a starter for planning purposes. Cousins will get the first-team snaps as Robert Griffin III watches from the sideline.
