RG3 eager to ramp up activity at Redskins training camp

Royal baby frenzy as Prince William and wife Kate give birth to son

Well just keep going like that. That means, according to Griffin , hell continue to ramp up with more reps in the morning walkthrough each day. After that its just about him putting me into the team reps, trusting me in there, that Ill be smart, and them trusting that I can make the moves to avoid guys, Griffin said. I feel like I can, but once again Ive got to defer to coach and let him make that decision. Its a balancing act for all parties, but more so for those charged with saving Griffin from himself. Griffin indicated there is a formal timeline of sorts for the early weeks of camp, but it gets pretty vague after this week, leaving plenty of flexibility based on how Griffin s surgically repaired knee reacts to increased football activity. His next big milestone will be participation in team drills, which remains a couple of weeks off based on what Shanahan said last week. But Griffin already is looking in that direction.

Robert Griffin III gets up

(Carolyn Kaster / Associated Press / June 12, 2013) By Sam Farmer July 22, 2013, 9:56 a.m. Washington quarterback Robert Griffin III tweeted Monday that doctors have cleared him to practice and he will be ready to go for the start of Redskins training camp. Griffin is six months removed from major knee surgery to repair ligament tears he suffered in Washington’s playoff loss to Seattle. He sustained torn anterior cruciate and lateral collateral ligaments in his right knee. Doctors cleared me to practice. Coach is going to ease me in. Thank you for your support & See you in Richmond

Robert Griffin III to wear knee brace all season

That call will be made after the season based on his experience with the brace in 2013. “I don’t know if I’ll wear it forever. I know I’ll wear it for the rest of the season,” he said. He said the knee brace isn’t a hindrance. “You get used to it, your leg gets stronger and you can carry that extra weight,” he said.

His recovery seems to be mirroring that of 2012 league MVP Adrian Petterson’s seemingly superhuman comeback from a torn ACL suffered Dec. 24, 2011. Peterson was held back during the first two weeks of Minnesota Vikings training camp last summer and listed on the team’s physically unable to perform list, which prevents a player from participating in any team drills with teammates. Redskins coach Mike Shanahan told USA TODAY Sports in June that Griffin would be back on the field only after doctors cleared him and Shanahan was convinced his knee was full go. Now RG3 seems well on his way to reaching his ultimate goal starting in the Redskins’ Sept. 9 season opener on Monday Night Football against the Philadelphia Eagles. *** Follow Jim Corbett on Twitter @ByJimCorbett PHOTOS: Pivotal players to watch in the NFC USA TODAY Sports already revealed its list of 2013’s pivotal players in the AFC. Robert Griffin III: ‘Doctors cleared me to practice’

And after that, its kind of just wait and see. Shanahan has limited Griffin to individual drills, including seven-on-seven passing drills, in the early stages of camp, withholding Griffin from full team drills. Griffin said he understands Shanahans approach but is eager to move on to the next step in his return. I think there is a timeline, Griffin said. There will be about another week of what weve been doing and then after that week, then its probably a little more see what happens because theyre going to eventually put me back in those team reps, give me more reps in practice. Thats what I really look forward to. Im using this last week to continue to take those mental reps and do that kind of thing.

In a corner, the tight end Logan Paulsen was shocked and slumped at his locker. “I just wanted to get over to him and make sure he didn’t try to stand up,” he said when asked why he rushed to Griffin’s side after that last knee-buckle. “Because he always tries to do that.” And then Griffin came out, still in his pads, and sat at his locker for a long time. Later, he’d follow Mike Shanahan — clipped, Air Force-y diction from a tight orange face — and London Fletcher at the podium in the media room. Griffin was almost certainly either in agonizing pain or aloft on an opioid cloud, but he handled questions with grace.

Griffin hopes to have training-camp workload increased next week

“I call it `Operation Patience.’ Griffin said he has “no pain” and “no swelling” in his right knee. He says he can plant on the leg the way he did before he first injured it last season. He said he’s always forgetting to put on his brace, which he is supposed to wear during practices and games all season. “I don’t really worry about my leg anymore,” he said. “I just play football.” To that end, Griffin feels he’s ready to do more than he is allowed. During the portions of practice devoted to special teams, he goes to a separate field and runs through a scaled-down version of the plays he missed during the 11-on-11s. He said he did get a “little bump-up” in work during Monday morning’s walkthrough, but he won’t join the 11-on-11 drills in the main practice until next week at the earliest. “I feel like I’m ready for that – but we’re being real cautious right now and taking it slow,” Griffin said.

I don’t know if I’ll wear it forever,” he said. “I know I’ll wear it the rest of the season. After the first time I had the injury, I wore it for a year and I thought I’d wear it the rest of my life. The next year came around, and I took it off, and we won a Heisman and did a whole lot of other things. It just depends on how the leg feels. I don’t plan on wearing it past this season, but that all depends on what happens.

Eight Redskins have been suspended by NFL for drug violations, performance-enhancers since 2011

His one-year contract with the Redskins rolled over into this season under league rules, and he is eligible for possible reinstatement late next month. Each individual situation is different, Hall said. I dont really know each situation, so I cant really comment on it as a whole. Just speaking in terms of being suspended for PEDs or whatever the case may be, its tough. Its tough.

When you include violations of the substance abuse policy, the Redskins have had eight players suspended by the league since the beginning of the 2011 season. Eight is a lot, cornerback DeAngelo Hall said. I didnt know that. I wasnt really paying attention. But Ill tell you what, theyll get it right. Its their career at stake, their livelihood. Theyll wake up and smell the roses. The list of players suspended over the last three seasons includes three who violated the substance abuse policy: Left tackle Trent Williams , tight end Fred Davis , and safety Tanard Jackson , who is serving an indefinite suspension.

Suspension gives Redskins’ Golston chance to start

*** During team drills, running back Alfred Morris picked up cornerback David Amersons blitz, squared up the block and stopped Amerson. Morris improved as a pass blocker as last season progressed. Although Roy Helu Jr. is getting many reps in third-down situations so far, pass protection helps make Morris a complete back. *** Tight end Jordan Reed blocked smaller, undrafted inside linebackers on separate running plays during team drills. He got away once with leading with turning sideways and leading with his front shoulder, and he did the same thing another time when he chipped a defensive lineman.

The atmosphere was amazing out here today, Hall said. The fans were really enthusiastic and the players fed off of that. Redskins training camp runs through Aug. 16. Most days there are walk throughs at 10 a.m. and practices at 3:20 p.m., all of which are free to the public.

She wasnt able to get one single autograph from ANY specific player, and it naturally broke her heart. Obviously the woman is an attention whore, but the question that rises is if this is serious, or if this is some sort of ploy to get something free, such as the VIP Passes the Redskins give out during training camp (which you would hope she does no receive). By no means is a player required to autograph a single thing a fan hands them, they however do out of respect for the support shown. This of course is more for the kids, rather than grown adults who have been known for getting autographs then turning around and selling them online. Last season at Redskins Park a fan was known for doing exactly that, as hed bring in anywhere from 10 to 15 things to be autographed. Her main problem however was being in the wrong area, and had she been to training camps before (she claims to be a life long fan), she should know you want to be at the part of the fence where the players come out of the building, not at the other end (where she apparently was). Lets just hope the other fans in her area dont also make these same videos.

The next day, Green clarified his remarks in an interview with 106.7 The Fan , a D.C.-area radio station. “What my real comment in response to the question was, ‘Does it deserve merit?'” Green clarified. “And my comments were that, ‘Look, if it offended somebody if somebody was offended, then I think it merits at least a discussion.’ I mean, goodness, I mean, people should be able to say ‘Hey, you offended me’ and somebody should be able to have a dialogue. Now, where it lands, thats another thing.” Later during the interview, Green made his position abundantly clear. “In no way I want to see the Redskins change their name, Green told the hosts and radio audience. “So that just makes that clear. And Ill speak for Art, theres no way he wants it, and I guarantee he didnt say it, and I know Ryan Kerrigan Jersey White I didnt say it. The ongoing discussion, debate, controversy, non-issue that has occurred this offseason led team owner Daniel Snyder to declare he would never change the team name. On May 10, Snyder told USA Today ,”We’ll never change the name,” Snyder said. “It’s that simple: NEVERyou can use caps.” One week prior to Snyder’s comments, a so-called “Native American chief” was interviewed on Redskins Nation , a show that is produced, staffed and hired by Redskins owner Dan Snyder. The team proudly announced the news and the support of someone who could put a face on the story.

Redskins defensive end Jarvis Jenkins suspended four games for violating NFL’s PEDs policy

— They are used to this by now, the Washington Redskins , as they rank among the top teams in the league over the past couple of years in the dubious category of drug suspensions. The latest, announced Friday, is a four-game suspension for defensive end Jarvis Jenkins , who becomes the eighth Redskins player to be suspended for a drug violation in the last three years. The whys, the wherefores, the excuses and the denials are all a matter of public record. Jenkins said in a statement that he believes the banned substance was in a supplement he took that didn’t list any banned substances on its label. Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said in a post-practice news conference that each of the drug suspensions is different and that the team is “trying to do our due diligence to make it right.” Whatever. A lot of guys cheat, on a lot of teams, in every sport. Some get caught while most don’t. The Redskins are having a bad run with drug suspensions, some of which are for performance-enhancers (as Jenkins’ is) and some of which are not. Make of that what you will. What it means in this case is that they become even more short-handed in the pass rush for the first four games of the 2013 season.

He was definitely what I call a core Redskin. He believed in everything that this organization stands for, but there is a business side to it. I think he’s instilled enough in me and me in him that hopefully I can channel some of my inner `Zo out here during practice.” Notes: The Redskins brought in LB Joe Mays for a workout Saturday evening. Joe Theismann Believes Robert Griffin III Could Play in Preseason

Notes: Robert Griffin likely won’t play in preseason

I have tremendous respect for Adam, but when it comes to medical conditions of people, theres two guys that I know dont share anything: Mike Shanahan and Bill Belichick, Theismann said, according to CBS Washington D.C. I think he wants to see how he does in camp. If hes well enough in the next-to-last preseason game to play a quarter, maybe he sticks him out there, maybe he doesnt. Obviously, if Griffin is not ready to play then the Redskins will not put him in harms way. There is no question Shanahan learned his lesson the last time around when he sent his quarterback back into the game too soon during the playoffs, which resulted in a torn ACL. Griffin is the face of the franchise and cannot become injury prone.

And with that growth, the type that made a teenage girl’s hand tremor Thursday as she stared down at the glove Griffin had just handed her, there will be debate. Debate about how to manage him. Debate about when to play him. Debate, it turns out, that is superficially similar to that which followed Tebow. In the wake of Griffin’s rapid rehabilitation from knee surgery less than seven months ago, Washington coach Mike Shanahan finds himself making decisions that will never please everyone, mostly because this subject has caused so many varying opinions. Should Griffin play in the preseason? Should the Redskins change the offense to better protect him? Is Griffin being too bold in his recovery? While entirely subjective, these questions (from media and fans alike) hound Shanahan like an IRS audit. And so far, at least, it’s difficult to argue with the decisions he has made.

The coach also said it “doesn’t make any sense” for the quarterback to play in any preseason games, in part because the Redskins’ exhibition schedule — with games on Thursday, Monday, Saturday and then Thursday again — is so wacky. “I think so many times that the repetition in preseason is so over-exaggerated,” Shanahan said. “Coach in college for 10 years, and you never had a preseason game. You go into the (first regular season) game ready to play. A lot of times when you practice and you practice at game speed, you can go into a game without exhibition games.” Griffin started the morning practice without the familiar big black brace on his right knee, but he soon put it on. Shanahan joked that Griffin will be fined for not wearing it. “He’s supposed to do everything with his knee brace on,” the coach said.

Robert Griffin III : ‘Doctors cleared me to practice’

Washington quarterback Robert Griffin III has been given the all-clear to take part in the Redskins pre-season training camp. The 23-year-old underwent surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate knee ligament in February and had been considered doubtful to be fit for the start of the new NFL season. But Griffin’s rehabilitation has progressed without any setbacks, and he will be “eased in” to practice when the team’s pre-season camp opens on Wednesday. Griffin announced the news on Twitter, stating: “Doctors cleared me to practice. Coach is going to ease me in. Thank you for your support & See you in Richmond.” Griffin’s practice will be limited to throwing before he is given the green light to take part in team drills. The Redskins are also unlikely to put Griffin on the Physically Unable to Perform list, which could have ruled him out of the start of the season. Griffin was drafted by the Redskins with the second pick of the 2012 NFL Draft and enjoyed an outstanding rookie season, playing a pivotal role in the team winning the NFC East division for the first time since 1999 with a 10-6 record.

And yet, Evan Royster and Roy Helu both looked good in the early going. It wouldn’t be stunning, and it would certainly be smart, if they were used to lighten Morris’ load throughout the season. Keenan Robinson suffered an injury during drills and is reportedly set to miss the entire season. That’s just another early blow, along with Carriker, to a defense that definitely doesn’t need a(nother) pile of injuries decimating it early on. In good news, Brian Orakpo is “full-go” according to Shanahan, as is tight end Fred Davis . The latter looked somewhat slimmed down and could be a sneaky piece to this offense if he’s healthy. The crowd at Skins camp was impressive. All told, Skins PR said 4,000 folks showed up for the morning practice in Richmond and then counted 6,100 for the afternoon session. They were rowdy too.

He led the club to its first division title in 13 years in 2012 and was chosen the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year, and his unique talents are needed if the team is to sustain that momentum. Griffin injured the knee multiple times last season. He missed one game after spraining the LCL, then reinjured the knee at least twice more in the playoff loss to the Seattle Seahawks in January. He had surgery a few days later.

Redskins’ Robert Griffin III cleared to practice

This is a great deal for me. I really want this job, and I want to do it for a long time. Cooley, 31, ends his playing career after nine seasons all with the Redskins. He was released in training camp prior to last season, but the Redskins re-signed him after starting tight end Fred Davis suffered a season-ending injury in October. Cooley said he would not file his official retirement papers with the NFL immediately, leaving open a slim possibility of a return as a player. But he said he does not intend to play again. That door would be open a crack, Cooley said. But do I plan to play?

Should the Redskins Allow Robert Griffin to Play in the Preseason?

If he were entering his rookie season, it would be a different story. But RG3 proved he’s capable of high-caliber NFL quarterback play in 2012. He led the Redskins from 3-6 to 10-6 and was integral in the club winning its first NFC East title since 1999. Griffin III threw 12 touchdowns to only two interceptions in the six games he started and won to end the year. During that span, he tacked on 286 rushing yards as well. His knee injury looked relatively gruesome and with major damage to both the ACL and MCL, the most intensive form of precaution should be taken. It doesn’t appear the Redskins have rushed back RG3 in any way, shape or form this offseason, and they shouldn’t get overly anxious to get him back on the field for any part of a meaningless preseason. Al Bello/Getty Images Sure, RG3 has been Adrian Petersonian in regard to the speed of his rehabilitation process, and there’s a chance the world-class athlete returns to pre-injury form just like the Minnesota Vikings running back did coming off his catastrophic knee injury a season ago. But much more harm than good can could come from Griffin III playing in a preseason outing. He has a firm grasp on the offensealthough one can expect he won’t be running as often in his sophomore campaignand doesn’t necessarily need to acclimate himself to the quickness or complexity of the NFL game. If totally healthy, yes 100.0% Total votes: 1 Teams are adamant about not showing or tipping any of their regular-season plays, tendencies or wrinkles in the preseason, anyway. So even if opposing defenses have new plans to stop Griffin III, they likely won’t be implemented on the field before the regular season. Even as a newcomer in 2012, Griffin III only threw 31 passes in the preseason, 17 of which came in the third exhibition game.

Redskins test out recovering RG III

However, defensive end Adam Carriker, who tore a quad in Week 2 of 2012 and needed a follow-up surgery during the offseason, will likely begin camp on the physically unable to perform list. Orakpo looked good while the others were recuperating in the spring. But as has been the case since he was drafted second overall in 2012, everything Redskins revolves around Griffin. The 2012 Offensive Rookie of the Year was held out of OTAs and minicamp as he continued to recover from Jan. 9 surgery on his right ACL and LCL. Griffin wants to be ready for the September 9 opener against Philadelphia, but coach Mike Shanahan was the target of complaints that Griffin returned too quickly last season, so decisions are expected to be made carefully and in conjunction with Dr. William Andrews. Absent Griffin, the Redskins are a far different time, but fellow second-year veteran Kirk Cousins did well when called on last year and will get plenty of reps with the first team while Griffin works his way back. Defensive coordinator Jim Haslett has to figure out who the safeties are after an ugly 2012 campaign on the defense’s back end. Washington is counting on a healthy Meriweather — limited to one game last season because of three injuries to his right ACL — and the addition of rookies Phillip Thomas and Bacarri Rambo, each a big playmaker in college, to fix the safety woes that were a headache in 2012.

Washington Redskins’ Ryan Kerrigan Poised For Breakout Season

Redskins’ Ryan Kerrigan seeks to produce sacks on a consistent basis

He led the Redskins with 8.5 sacks, eight passes defense, as well asreturning his only interception in 2012 for a 28 yard touchdown. These statistics suggest that Kerrigan has the ability to become a game changing force for Washington on defense. Kerrigans stellar http://www.parkwolfpackfootball.com/nfl/ryankerriganjersey.html 2012 season was overshadowed by the exploits of quarterback Robert Griffin III and running back Alfred Morris. He will benefit greatly from the return of right outside linebacker Brian Orakpo, who had his 2012 season shortened by a right triceps injury. Its best that Kerrigan continues to shine in relative obscurity. Orakpo was one of Washingtons most consistent defenders, earning 28.5 sacks in his first three seasons in Washington before suffering his injury. Orakpos sack total dictates that opposing offenses must account for his pass rushing prowess, perhaps in the form of double team blocking. This would place Kerrigan in more one on one blocking opportunities on the left side. Redskins fans hope Kerrigan will continue his solid effort in the teams efforts to improve on defense. Maybe Kerrigan can sustain his career momentum and help Redskins fans realize that he is the future of the Washington defense. In the short term, Washington hopes he can continue to progress into a great all around defender.

RYAN KERRIGAN SIGNED REDSKINS MINI HELMET

Through four weeks, Kerrigan was the top-ranked 3-4 outside linebacker in the league according to Pro Football Focus’s grades. His scoring play in Week 5 offered some evidence as to why. The Redskins took Kerrigan in the first round of the 2011 draft, so they believed he could be a difference-making player in their defense. He has turned out to be just about perfect. Those who would like the sack totals to be higher miss the point. Kerrigan could launch himself after the quarterback on every play and possibly get more sacks. But what jumps out when you watch him is that he makes good decisions. Sometimes, instead of overpursuing, he’ll hold back and bat down a pass, or wrestle a running back to the ground.

The team has invested a first-round pick in each of them and constructed a defense designed to maximize their ability to get to the opposing quarterback. This means the plan is not simply to have a good pass rush, but a dominant one. Haslett’s scheme calls for Orakpo and Kerrigan to be speedy, relentless predators who harass quarterbacks on every play and roll up the sacks. And 2013 is the year for them to flourish in that scheme. Orakpo, the 13th overall pick in the 2009 draft, turns 27 in July, and as of now is heading into the final year of his contract. He could, conceivably, get an extension from the Redskins prior to the start of the season, but that’s no sure thing. Drafted to be a dominant pass-rusher, Orakpo has flashed that ability during his career, averaging 9.5 sacks in his first three seasons before last season was cut short by a Week 2 pectoral muscle injury.

Redskins must bring pass rush back to life

I think hes doing fine. . . . Hes going to draw attention because hes the guy, and hes going to have to overcome some things.

London Fletcher, Ryan Kerrigan both Pro Bowl Bound

London Fletcher, Ryan Kerrigan Washington Redskins

When watching, it was expected that Alexander would show up on your television screen during a punt or kick-off return. He was knocking returners heads off on a weekly basis. Fletcher deserved to be a Pro Bowler in the first place, in my opinion. He will be official site making an appearance for the fourth straight year, and hes been as consistent as any linebacker in the game of football during his career. He had five interceptions this season, to go along with 139 total tackles. Kerrigan will make his first trip to Hawaii as a member of the Pro Bowl roster. In only his second season, Kerrigan had 8.5 sacks. The most impressive part of Kerrigans season, is the fact that linebacker Brian Orakpo was injured all year as well, which brought more attention to Kerrigan. However, he still managed to have a productive season for the Redskins. The Pro Bowl isnt such a popular game anymore, as players have constantly began to opt out of playing on their own.

Ryan Kerrigan could save Redskins’ defense

Photo via the Caps. While the Capitals were busy scoring a touchdown of their own, Washington Redskins linebacker Ryan Kerrigan took in the game, then paid a visit to the locker room for a meet and greet with the players. Though its not uncommon for D.C. athletes from different sports to support each other at games, this wont be a one-time thingfor Kerrigan. Ive been a lot this year, he said, asCaps players introduced themselves, including Eric Fehr, who talked at length with him about football. Kerrigan was shown on the big screen during the game, and fans shouldnt be surprised if they see more of him. When told of former teammate Chris Cooleys shenanigans at the Caps games, like coming down to the locker room and interviewing players , hanging out in the press box, or racing Fred Davis on tricycles , Kerrigan was amused. That sounds about right, he said, smiling.Thats gonna be my thing. Ben Sumner works in the Posts IT department and writes for Capitals Outsider .

Second-year slumpbusters: Robert Griffin III

So, There’s A (Probably Untrue) Rumor That RGIII Was Texting This Hooters Waitress On The Morning Of His Wedding…

Tim Tebow Skip Bayless

Andrew Luck , Robert Griffin III , Russell Wilson, and Colin Kaepernick all took their teams at either the start of the season, or at crucial times down the stretch, and redefined their offenses to a historic degree. Luck took the Indianapolis Colts , 2011’s worst team, to the playoffs, and he was anything but a “game manager.” He attempted more deep passes and took more pressure than any other quarterback. Griffin cost the Washington Redskins first-round draft picks in the next two years, but he proved to be worth that price when he took his team’s formerly moribund offense into the vanguard of the NFL’s new option attacks. Russell Wilson wasn’t expected to start when he was drafted — that’s what happens to a third-round pick who was dinked by front offices because of his height — but he had a similarly transformative effect on the Seattle Seahawks ‘ offense, and tied Peyton Manning’s rookie record for touchdown passes while bailing out of the pocket more often than anyone else at his position. And Colin Kaepernick of the San Francisco 49ers took his team to the verge of a Super Bowl win in his 10th professional start (yes, dear commenters, we do know that he was not a rookie in 2012 … but he was a first-year starter), with an offense that turned out to be uniquely and perfectly suited to his strengths. Four young men who have done the unexpected, and raised the level of expectation for rookie quarterbacks to a ridiculous degree. Now that their performances are in the books, however, all four of them are facing the same tough question: What do you do for an encore? We’ve explored how Luck’s second season might be different — now, let’s go under the hood with Mr.

Robert Griffin III Making Astonishing Progress in Recovery from Knee Injury

It has a picture of someone that could be RGIII attached. That means nothing. Changing someones contact to RGIII and having them text you is very easy. You can even do it yourself. Creating fake texts on the internet is also extremely easy. I once wrote a (fictional!) story about Tim Tebow marrying a Jew and created these alleged texts from Tebows phone in about three minutes.

Since then someone else–a couple guys actually have bested the Redskins superstar. Any guesses as to who? The honor now belongs to this guy: From April through June… Via Jocks and Stiletto Jill | 3 days ago Back in the day, a side chick knew her place. She concerned herself only with her A and B situation with her unavailable man, not seeking attention from strangers by leaking texts, photos and proof of their dalliances. But thats not how it goes down in 2013. Internet fame is a drug and now we can add one more name to the ever growing list of alleged side chicks who blast on the…

Morning links: More high praise for Wilson

The Seahawks defeated the Redskins 24-14. (AP Photo/Evan Vucci) Good morning from the desert. Bill Barnwell of Grantland provides an interesting look at the four young quarterbacks from 2012 in Russell Wilson, Andrew Luck, Robert Griffin III and Colin Kaepernick. Barnwell takes a look at the numbers and predicts what quarterback will be the most successful in 2013. Barnwell gives Griffin the nod over Wilson as the most productive quarterback of the four in 2012. But who will be the best of the four in 2013. Heres Barnwells answer. Barnwell: Im going to rule out Kaepernick because he has likely lost his best receiver, Michael Crabtree, for most of the season.

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III’s Lesson from Legendary Coach Lombardi

Redskins training camp preview: Wide receivers

Every inch of him has to play. Some guys play with their heads. Thats O.K. Youve got to be smart to be number one in any business. But more importantly, youve got to play with your heart, with every fiber of your body. If youre lucky enough to find a guy with a lot of head and a lot of heart, hes never going to come off the field second.

Redskins training camp preview: Tight ends

It will be interesting to see how they move Reed within formations and using pre-snap motion to do so. Preseason questions: The Redskins are positioned to keep four tight ends for the first time under Shanahan. Which position loses a roster spot, accordingly, wont be clear until the 53-man roster is finalized on Aug. 31. Drafting Reed forces the numbers change, but the Redskins believe they could never have enough playmakers on offense. That approach as it relates to tight ends, though, can require tradeoffs.

Report: Redskins haven’t set date to determine RGIII’s status for camp

Robert Griffin III

Washington recently re-signed veteran tight end Fred Davis to a one-year extension, but with Niles Paul entering his second season tight end convert , and new draft pick Jordan Reed under contract, the Redskins are looking at a log jam at the position. Its a matter of how do you work in the other tight ends, the Washington Posts John Keim pointed out to 106.7 The Fans Holden and Danny. Will Jordan Reed have a role? Im not confident that right away that he would. Certainly having too many weapons on offense is a problem any team would welcome with open arms, and a tremendous issue for a 2nd year quarterback like RGIII to be facing, but their roles will eventually need to be defined. Keim points out other uncertainties at the position include how well Davis has recovered from his torn Achilles, which prematurely ended his 2012 campaign. We dont know how recovered Fred is from that Achilles, Keim said. What if hes only ninety percent? Again, these are all good problems to have, but even good problems are still problems until theyre resolved.

Green was playing for the New York Giants at the time. He played for New York and for the Detroit Lions between 2000 and 2005. He filed a lawsuit earlier this year against the Redskins, Williams and the player who hit him, Robert Royal . The team said in a response filed Friday in federal court in Greenbelt, Md., that Green’s claims are “utterly baseless.” But, even if they were true, his lawsuit is pre-empted by an NFL collective bargaining agreement and was filed too late, lawyers for the team wrote. The team argues that an NFL collective bargaining agreement in place at the time required Green to exhaust grievance and arbitration procedures before filing a lawsuit, which he did not do. The team also says the statute of limitations for all Green’s claims is three years from the time of his injury. Green said in his lawsuit he was suspicious he may have been targeted when he was hit in 2004, and team lawyers wrote he had enough information then to pursue his claims if he wanted. The allegations of a bounty program came to light more recently.

Redskins Position Battles: Crowded at Tight End, Future of Position Uncertain

Hell be a better player. He has said so himself. Given what he said at their bye week last year when they were 3-6; that they could still make the playoffs, that he could play better, that he had to play better, then he went out and did, I think its pretty clear that he will be better than before. So think about that. Jul 14, 2013 7:55 PM Eli will be ready. Hes a proven winner.

Redskins want bounty lawsuit dismissed

No one in particular stands out. Henderson has some experience playing inside in some of New Orleans multiple-receiver sets, but he mostly lined up wide. Because the Redskins signed him at the end of spring practices, we have not witnessed whether he still is a significant deep threat. At age 31, theres a reason the Saints didnt bring him back.Redskins defensive coordinator Jim Haslett loved Hendersons speed when, as Saints head coach, he drafted Henderson in 2004, but Henderson must prove he can still run. Hankerson and Robinson would secure their roster spots by improving some problem areas. Hankerson battles inconsistency catching the ball, and that continued with at least one drop during spring practices that were open to media. He emphasizes concentrating on securing the ball before making a move. Robinsons run blocking cost him playing time early last year. Its not easy for him to match the blocking standard set by first-string X receiver Garcon, given his two-inch, 30-pound size disadvantage.
